Description

The Cavern of Murals is an intricate cave near Iskandaria accessible by embarking on the Cavern of Murals subadventure or during Laura or Armic's scenario as part of the story adventure The Earth Elemental Gear or Cavern Adventure respectively.

The caverns are filled with painted murals from a past civilization that contain a large amount of magical power. In the deepest depth of the cave is a large, unique mural with the power of the dragon Primus, one of the guardians used to seal Leith Torles's tower, hidden within it. The flow of energy at this point is very strong, and when introduced to the Behemoth Chestplate or Behemoth's Chain creates chaotic energy that also attracts the monster Kummi who servers as the guardian for those items.

Murals

There are four types of murals found throughout the cavern, each type depicting a different type of creature on them. The murals can be touched, which will summon monsters. Upon defeat of the monsters, the touched mural will vanish, sometimes revealing a crevice or rock hollow behind it which can be used to traverse to other parts of the cave.

Murals with an image of a beast can summon the common Beasts Draco Pup and Draco.

Murals with an image of an aquan can summon the leader monsters Razorfish and Principal Razorfish.

Murals with an image of a bird can summon the common Birds Doubleheader (A), Doubleheader (B), and Parahunter, or they can summon the leader monster Firebird.

The mural in the deepest part of the cavern with an image of a dragon will summon the leader monster Primus.

While the battle with Primus and a battle with Firebird are fixed, the other murals will produce random encounters. The higher the player's monster rank, the more likely they are to find difficult encounters from murals. While most murals are optional to touch, some murals must be touched to discover crevices and rock hollows to advance through the caverns. Optional murals may hide paths to treasures or may hide nothing at all.

Crevices and Rock Hollows

Behind some murals are crevices and rock hollows that the party can climb through.

Crevices are used to move between two adjacent spaces on the map. The adjacent space on the map will not be visible until the crevice has been discovered from behind a mural. The only way to move between spaces separated by a crevice is to use the Action command on the crevice; using the control stick to try to walk to the space normally will not work.

Rock Hollows are used to move between the upper and lower levels of the cavern, transitioning between the two maps.

Lower Level

I. Cavern of Murals / The Earth Elemental Gear / Cavern Adventure
1 This pass over the deepest area of the cave allows you to see within where the final goal, the Chamber of Dragon, is.
2 While there are many murals in the first cavern area, the mural at I-2 is the one that covers the crevice leading to the rest of the cavern. The other murals nearby lead nowhere and only serve to summon enemies to battle.
3 The mural at I-3 covers the first rock hollow needed to advance to the lower level of the caverns. Traveling through the lower level will lead to another rock hollow that returns to the upper level, which is the only route to the Chamber of Dragon. The mural at I-3 will always summon Firebird.
4 There are two paths available to reach the rock hollow on the eastern side of the lower level of the caverns which will lead back up to the upper level and the Chamber of Dragon. Taking the eastern path marked with I-4 requires Swimming. Without taking the Swimming route, the party must travel south through the other path marked with I-4 which requires touching a mural to reveal a crevice.
5 To clear the Cavern of Murals adventure, you must touch the dragon mural on the floor of the Chamber of Dragon to summon Primus, then defeat Primus in battle. This means at least one turn is required upon reaching the Chamber of Dragon. In The Earth Elemental Gear and Cavern Adventure, however, Laura or Armic will encounter Kummi here without needing to expend an additional turn.
