Weapon Arts

Weapon Arts are usually the primary source of damage for the party throughout the game. Some arts appear in more than one ability line, and their levels reflect only how they appear on the reel, not necessarily their relative strength. HP and EN cost are based on the Ability used, not which Art is used.

Early-game, Dagger, Bow, Gun, and Spear are reliable sources of LP damage, with Sword being a good source of HP damage if you need to lower the enemy's HP before trying to damage LP. Staff Arts will have usefulness in their ability to lower the enemy's status, which is especially helpful against Leader Monsters and the occasional high-ranking monster you will run into.

Mid-game, Bow Arts will pick up versatility and usefulness while the power of Sword Arts will start to decrease as they become more evenly matched with arts from other weapons, but it will continue to have utility in its Stun and Skill Down arts. Dagger becomes a great source of paralysis before you can get Bopeep to inflict sleep, and Axe will get Heartbreaker to lower enemies' Magic Level, making it finally start to catch up in usefulness. Bow and Spear will have access to better group attack options, too. Staff will continue to gain versatility in debuff ability. Guns will have already become obsolete.

Late game, all weapons will get access to at least one powerful damaging art. Axe Arts and Spear Arts become the best source of damage output with Reverse Delta and Poker's Wild. Sword and Dagger will show their usefulness more in their ability to inflict Sleep, Paralysis, and Blackout to enemies that don't resist status well. Staff continues to help with variety of debuffing, especially since Endurance Down can support the status infliction of other weapons, and it happens to be available on Staff's best damaging art, too. Bow will be the best source of crowd control and a great method for reliable LP damage.

Arts List

Chart Guide
Ability The ability lines from which the art can be glimmered and used.
GR Growth Rate. Arts with higher growth rate grow stronger as the character's Levels grow higher.
HP The art's base HP damage. Higher values will do more HP damage per hit.
LP The art's base LP damage rate. Higher values will have a better chance of inflicting HP per hit.
HC Hit count. The number of times an art hits the enemy before showing total damage.
Acc Accuracy. Ranges from E (most likely to miss) to A (most likely not to miss).
Effect Additional effect an art may cause to the opponent upon contact; not guaranteed.
Glimmer Glimmer Rate. Higher numbers mean the art is less likely to glimmer when using its respective Ability.

Dagger Arts are especially great in the early-game. Quick Thurst is avaialble right away on any dagger, and it has great LP damage rate for a L1 art. it's only outpowered by Spear's Flash Pierce, but Quick Thrust has better accuracy and costs less HP to use. A dagger with the Stunner ability will allow a character to glimmer Lightning Thrust easily, which can then be used on any dagger through the Quick Thrust ability. Lightning Thrust is one of the easiest paralysis-inflicting arts to glimmer, which works well against most low-rank monsters since they have low Endurance and Status Resistance, helping conserve precious HP before it's had a chance to grow much.

Late in the game, Daggers are overshadowed in raw power by other weapons, but still have access to two great arts, Puree and Bloody Mary. The former can deal large amounts of damage from characters with high Skill Level, though it costs 2EN per use. The latter has a chance to inflict Blackout while having good LP damage rate even if you don't get the instant kill, making it great against higher-ranking Wildlings and other enemies with low resilience to status effects.

Despite Sword Arts having three arts in Level 5 slots, all of them pale in comparison to Doppelgangers, which can deal significant HP and LP damage, making it the Sword's best late-game damage option. If the enemy doesn't have high status resistance, though, Bopeep can be an even more useful option, as it deals decent damage while giving the chance to inflict both Sleep and Blackout, so even if you don't incapacitate or instantly defeat the opponent, you'll still continue to deal significant damage.

Heaven and Earth and Roundabout make for good Stun options for early-to-mid game which will outperform Throws in damage, and if you don't have access to the Light Throw line, they'll continue to be decent options for single-target Stun throughout the game.

While not as useful as Spear's Acupuncture, Gust is one of the few Skill Down arts available in the game, so it's nice to know about in case a Spear user is unavailable or you haven't glimmered Divine Lancer yet.

Axe Arts for the most part are generally unimpressive with their low accuracy and mediocre damage ratings, but they give access to Reverse Delta, the most powerful art in the game. With the combination of its Growth Rate and Hit Count and one of the highest LP damage rates, it deals massive HP and LP damage. Even with a low Strength Making, focusing on building a character's Strength will make Reverse Delta a reliable source of damage, to the extent that you will not need to use any other art in the game.

If you choose to avoid the overpowered Reverse Delta, Fuji View becomes the Axe's best choice for damage late in the game.

Also notable in the Axe Arts set is Heartbreaker, one of only two Magic Down arts in the game, the other belonging to Staff.

While Staff Arts do not have great damage output, they make up for it in the ability to debuff the opponent. Bone Crusher is a Strength Down art at Level 1, meaning you do not need to glimmer it and you can easily land it on the reel. Skull Splitter is the easiest access to Magic Down in the game, with the only other option being Axe's Heartbreaker, which is slightly more difficult to glimmer and has worse accuracy.

Earth Dragon has the ability to hit all enemies as well as Stun, making it capable of dealing multiple Stuns in a single action, possibly reducing the enemy's available actions in a turn greatly. While Grand Slam isn't as capable of dealing quick damage to a group like Spear's Reaper, it's much more accurate, making it the superior choice if your goal is to try to get as many Stuns as possible.

If you're in need of offensive power with someone equipped with only a Staff, Total Agony is the Staff's best damaging art, and shouldn't be overlooked. Time and Tide has a chance to inflict blackout, but it's not as strong as other Blackout arts, and is only available on the Roundhouse line which appears on few staves, and none of the most powerful ones.

Spear Arts can be quite powerful, but it takes a character with both high Strength and Skill levels to use them most effectively, sometimes making other weapons a better option for many characters. Poker's Wild is quite difficult to glimmer, but rivals Axe's Reverse Delta in power. Having a L3 Spear Arts panel or Weapon Meister panel instead of a higher level Spear Arts panel can help you land it on the reel, since the L5 arts are easier to hit on the L3 reel. Before glimmering Poker's Wild, DHS is the Spear's best damage output.

Spear also has great utility in addition to damage output, with Grasshopper being a powerful opportunity to Stun the opponent early in the game without needing to glimmer or worry about landing a reel since it is Level 1. Later, you can glimmer Reaper which is a sort of middle-ground between Grand Slam's accuracy and ability to stun and Parashots's damage output without additional effect.

Perhaps most importantly, though, Spear has access to Divine Lancer, the easiest Skill Down art to glimmer in the game, which is also capable of decent damage. Divine Lancer is also accompanied by Acupuncture, the strongest Skill Down art which can also be seen as a reliable source of damage on its own.

Bow Arts have varying usefulness over the course of the game. Early in the game, the Sniper Shot ability line is the most reliable source of LP damage among weapon arts. Random Arrowshot is the strongest of early-game crowd control options, with others being Staff's Earth Dragon and the Metal Art Shock, both of which have much worse damage output despite their higher accuracy.

Mid-game, Bow users get access to Shadow Arrow which deals decent damage and has a chance to inflict Blackout, making it a great alternative to arts like Bopeep and Bloody Mary if you don't have a Sword or Dagger handy or you haven't glimmered them yet.

Late in the game, the Sniper Shot line's usefulness dies down while the raw power of Zapper takes its place. Its slightly lower accuracy will be made up for by a higher Skill Level, and it can deal more damage than Phoenix Arrow with its high growth rate, plus it has the ability to inflict Blackout. Thousand Needles ends up being the Bow's best overall damage-dealer if you need to try to inflict multiple LP damage to an enemy or chip away HP, and Parashots will become an invaluable source of group damage, capable of taking out large crowds of weaker enemies easily with a single action.

Gun Arts are unique among Weapon Arts in that they do not need to be glimmered, so even the L4 Shot is available to any character as soon as they equip a gun. This gives access to an extremely powerful art from the very beginning of the game, capable of taking out most low-ranking enemies in a single hit. Even the L2 and L3 Shot are very powerful compared to other early-game arts, making Guns a great source of power before other arts have been glimmered.

As the game progresses and you gain access to higher level Gun Arts panels, the higher-level Shot will be easier to land on the reel, but its effectiveness will become overshadowed by other arts learned by the party, rendering guns obsolete.

In the Japanese version of the game, guns can be found as treasures at least, but in the English and Korean versions, guns have been removed as a treasure, making the only way to obtain them to recruit a character who already has one equipped. Mythe, Michelle, and Thomas come equipped with guns, meaning that in Kurt, Ruby, and Armic's scenario, it is impossible to find a gun, even though you may still get Gun Arts panels sometimes on the Growth Panel selection screen.
