Tamagotchi P2 Character Guide
Tamagotchi's life cycle consists of many evolutions. It starts as an Egg, hatches into a Baby, evolves into a Child, evolves into a Teenager, and evolves once more into an Adult. It's even possible to evolve another time from an Adult to a Hidden Adult!
The different forms Tamagotchi can take are each named Tamagotchi characters. The way you care for Tamagotchi will influence what path of evolution it takes and which character it will become.
There are three different versions of Tamagotchi P2, each with slight differences in which characters are available. In the Japanese series 1 (starts with an all-black egg), Pochitchi and Sekitoritchi are available. In the Japanese series 2 (starts with a black egg with white circles), Nyatchi and Charitchi are available. In the English version, Pochitchi and Zatchi are available.
The different releases of Tamagotchi P2 have different programming that affect the evolution requirements of individual characters. The first wave of Japanese P2s (series 1) use the V1 programming which is identical to the 1996 and 1997 releases of the P1. The second wave of Japanese P2s (series 2) and the North American release of the P2 use updated V2 programming in which care mistakes are more influential in evolution. The 2018 "Gen 2" rerelease uses updated rerelease programming in which discipline mistakes also affect evolution.
Note that this section of the site contains spoilers! If you want to enjoy your Tamagotchi by discovering how it reacts and evolves on your own, you may not want to read this guide just yet! Come back when you're looking to get a specific character and don't mind spoiling the inner workings of the game.

|
Notes |
Shirobabytchi functions as a "practice mode," as it will ask for almost every type of attention that a Tamagotchi can possibly require during its short hour-long life stage; however, nothing that happens to it during this stage affects its later life, so you can use it as a safe time to get used to the functions of the game. When born, shirobabytchi will call for attention because its Hungry and Happy levels are at 0. It will continue to lose another heart every 2-3 minutes. 15 minutes into its life, Shirobabytchi will poop. It will then poop again 30 minutes later (45 minutes into its life). About 30 minutes into its life, Shirobabytchi will fall ill and need two doses of medicine to recover. 40 minutes into its life, Shirobabytchi will fall asleep for a five-minute nap. Once it wakes up, it will be 1 year old. No matter how many times you feed Shirobabytchi or how many times you play games with it, its weight will never change. After 65 minutes, Shirobabytchi evolves into Tonmarutchi without fail, and its status will be the same no matter how it was cared for. Shirobabytchi's name comes from the Japanese shiro, meaning white, and the English baby. |

Notes |
Tonmarutchi is the first step in a Tamagotchi's lifecycle where your choices will matter. How many care mistakes you make will determine whether it evolves into Tongaritchi (fewer mistakes) or Hashitamatchi (more mistakes); furthermore, the amount of discipline you give Tonmarutchi will determine which hidden "version" of Tongaritchi or Hashitamatchi it evolves into, which will affect further evolutions. For example, it is only possible to obtain Mimitchi from a Tongaritchi that came from a Tonmarutchi with 75% or 100% discipline. |
